Every year, on the first Monday in May, the world's fashion elite gather in New York City to celebrate the Met Gala. For those of you who may not know, the Met Gala (Met is short for the Metropolitan Museum of Art) is an exclusive fashion event in which celebrities from the music, acting and designing world come together to raise money for the Met's Costume Institute and celebrate the debut of the new exhibition.
The event is chaired by US Vogue editor in chief, Anna Wintour, which means that you can expect the highest of high fashion to pass down the red carpet. They don't call this event the Fashion Oscars for nothing, darling.
There is a different theme every year, from China Through The Looking Glass in 2015 to Commes de Garcon last year, this years instalment brings you fashion inspired from heaven. Literally. The theme for 2018 is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.
With that in mind, we'll be using this year's theme as inspiration for some amazing hair styles. Because you know what they say.
The higher the hair, the closer to God.
GO LONG OR GO HOME
The perfect hairstyle for this theme.
The gowns will be embellished up to 11, so you best believe that you'll need the longest of long hair to match it. Whether you want clip in, or a more permanent method, any of our 26 inch hair extensions will work perfectly for this look.
Styling suggestions?
Sleek and straight, or tightly curled like the Queen's picture on the right.
And when I say Queen, I mean Beyonce. Obvs.
THE HIGHER THE HAIR...
Yes, I know I used this one before, but it's TRUE!
The slicked back high ponytail/braid is one of the coolest looks you can try. It looks amazing on pretty much everyone, if you're bold enough to try it.
To start, you'll need one of our 26 inch clip in pony tail extension. You can find our tutorial on how to attach it here.
If that's how you'd like to leave it, cool. But if you'd like to take it to the next level, divide the extension into 3 sections and start braiding downwards. If this is a little challenging for you, get someone to help you out. Both of these looks will look amazing with a slip on tiara, the bigger the better, or couple of metal hair cuffs (in silver or gold depending on your look).
BRAIDS WORTHY OF GODDESS STATUS
Another alternative way to play off elegance and style.
This look can be done a couple of ways, messy with a few loose strands of hair left out, as pictured on the right, or you can start off with dutch braiding your hair and wrap the ends over your head for a more sleek and polished look.
Be bold and add in some fine ribbon of your colour of choice. And if you're feeling REALLY daring, apply some gold leaf onto your roots, to sparkle like the 24 carat star that you are.
HAIR ACCESSORIES
Now that you've picked a hairstyle or two, you'll need to accessorise those tresses. The theme for this years Met Gala lends itself to big, bold and intricately detailed head pieces. Think dazzling, statement tiaras and stunning, bejewelled crowns.
