Minque Hair's Guide to DIY Hair Care from Your Kitchen

DIY HAIR CARE FROM YOUR KITCHEN

If you’re stuck at home on a Saturday night and it’s been a while since your last really good hair wash and treatment, here are some handy (tried and tested) hints for cleansing and nourishing your hair, without even having to leave your kitchen. Perfect! Minque Hair have you covered on how to treat your hair with these easy at home remedies.

CLARIFYING

Doing a thorough clarifying wash once a fortnight is really important for the health of your hair and scalp. We even recommend you follow these guidelines prior to getting your Minque tape hair extensions installed, as it removes the build up of product on your hair and helps reduce the amount of oils your scalp produces. Now if you haven’t got a dandruff shampoo lying about in one of the bathroom cupboards, a simple replacement may be sitting just in your pantry. We recommend mixing a few tablespoons of baking soda and enough water to make a runny paste. Then apply to the hair and massage in. You will find once you have coated the hair and scalp thoroughly it will be time to rinse it out and make sure you always follow this with a great nourishing conditioner (not applied to the roots, of course, just ears down). And of course, we recommend Kiki Hydrate Conditioner or Hydrate masque as they will leave your hair feeling soft and silky.

ADD SHINE

Aloe vera juice is great for so many reasons and it is really attainable in most towns. Apart from spraying it on our sunburn which is one of its most popular uses, it is also amazing for creating the ultimate shiny finish on our hair.

Once you have shampooed and conditioned the hair correctly, we then recommend spraying a small amount through your towel dried hair. For best results, let your hair dry naturally.

TREATMENTS

Now, to Minque Hair's favourite of the homemade hair solutions. Treatments.

For years I sat in the kitchen and watched my big sister mix up these jars full of leftovers and cupboard contents, thinking she was crazy. Then I would sit there while she covered both of our heads and wrapped us up in glad wrap haha.

But the joke was on me. Because they really work.

#1 - Cold pressed olive oil massaged into the head and scalp and wrap a warm towel around the hair for 20 mins. Not great for those with fine hair or excessively oily hair, so if that’s you, just keep it to your mid-lengths and below to achieve a great result.

#2 – Coconut oil is a great and readily available alternative to the olive oil trick above. It is also a little more suited to those with fine hair as It tends to not be as heavy.

#3 - A messy but effective treatment is to apply yoghurt (we recommend a more natural type like greek yoghurt) to the hair in between the shampoo and conditioner.

Simply towel dry your hair after shampooing and apply the yoghurt to the hair and leave for ten minutes. Best applied in the shower I would think, as this could get a bit messy. Then simply rinse and condition as normal. Two egg yolks with a few drops of lemon juice and leave in for several minutes, can also be replaced with an organic mayonnaise if you just happen to have one of them sitting around in the fridge.

Keeping those mid-length and ends hydrated is going to help with maintaining curls, make your Minque Hair Extensions blend in even more seamlessly and keep your locks gleaming. For more tricks and tips on how to grow long thick and healthy hair check out the link below to our other blog
